ACE2は人間細胞の細胞膜に存在する酵素領域を持つ膜タンパク質です。このタンパク質は当初、ペプチドホルモンであるアンジオテンシン I からアンジオテンシン II への変換を触媒する酵素である、アンジオテンシン変換酵素（ACE）の相同体（または変異体）として特定されたので、そのように命名されました。ACEは広く研究されており、血管収縮剤（血管壁の筋肉収縮を促し、血管の内腔を狭める）としてよく知られています。
